We cater for pupils across Key Stages One, Two, Three and Four. Our provision includes one-day workshops, short and long-term residencies and on-going tuition. Our primary aim is to use West African drum and dance activities in the development of musicianship. We can also provide spectacular performances of traditional West African music and dance with the performance troupe Hamana Bjemakan this performance could combine with workshops at your school as all our artists are hugely experienced at running workshops for participants of all ages. We also provide training for Initial Teacher Trainees, qualified teachers and music therapists in the delivery of West African drum and dance activities. This may be in the form of In Service curriculum support or college based lectures and workshops. Our aim here is to explore such issues as authenticity in teaching world musics while also raising awareness of non-western teaching methodologies. We also work in further and higher education and run a programme of intensive weekend workshops for adults in West African music and dance click here and a series of regular weekly classes in djembe and dance click here. To be put on the mailing list for adult dance workshops or for general enquiries email eliza@djembeschool.org
